2016 Great Pumpkin Festival CancelledDate Posted: Friday, September 30th, 2016
After long discussions, the Town of Millville has decided to cancel this year’s Great Pumpkin Festival, which was set for Saturday, Oct. 1. The decision to cancel was not an easy one — especially after all of the behind-the-scenes preparatory work the Town has already done. But because the Town has to coordinate with many other businesses (the trash company, the port-a-potty company, the kids rides company, the music band, the transportation, the table and chair rental company, and the State Police) — as well as vendors — to get the Festival up and running, and, due to this time of year being a busy time for fall festivals in the area, those businesses and vendors cannot all commit to an additional rain date. Also, the Town must always make safety a priority; so when rain and possible thunderstorms are in the forecast, the Town must always put the safety of the public first.
The Town is just as saddened as everyone to not be holding the Pumpkin Festival this year, but we are already making plans for next year and reviewing options for either holding the event on a different date, as well as research the logistics and whether it’s feasible to have a rain date, taking into mind all of the factors previously mentioned above. We thank all of you for your support and understanding!
