Ron Belinko, CMAA
Ron Belinko, CMAA, has been involved in education and interscholastic athletics since 1966. He was the Coordinator of Athletics for the Baltimore County Public Schools and has earned honors at the national, state, and local levels. He is a Veteran of the Maryland Army National Guard.
Belinkos’ work at all levels of high school athletics helped him advance to several important positions within the MSADA, NFHS and the NIAAA. He was a member of the initial NFHS Boys’ Lacrosse Rules Committee in 1999 and was appointed chairman in 2003. In 1998, Belinko was named the Maryland State Leadership Training Coordinator and was inducted into the MSADA’s Hall of Fame in 2013. He is a member of the NIAAA’s national faculty for LTI 707 and LTI 502. He served as vice chair of the NIAAA Certification Committee. Belinko has spoken at thirteen NIAAA National Conferences of High School Directors of Athletics and has been published in the Interscholastic Athletic Administration Journal. He was invited by the NIAAA to develop a LTI course on the “Organization of Athletic Programs for Students With Disabilities.” Belinko received the NIAAA State Award of Merit and the Frank Kovaleski Professional Development Award. He also received the NFHS Citation Honor. In 2017 Ron was inducted into the National Interscholastic Athletic Administrators Association’s Hall of Fame.
Belinko has been equally dedicated to the Maryland Public Secondary Schools Athletic Association (MPSSAA). Involved with the association since 1983, he has served on the MPSSAA’s Executive Council, the MPSSAA Board of Control and served a term as president. He directed the state wrestling tournament from 1979 to 1990 and served on the MPSSAA Wrestling Weight Certification Committee in 2003. Belinko was inducted into the National Wrestling Hall of Fame in 2004, and he was also inducted into the Maryland State Wrestling Hall of Fame in 1987, as well as the Baltimore County Wrestling Hall of Fame. With his extensive experience in lacrosse, Belinko worked as director of the MPSSAA Lacrosse Committee, a position he has held until his retirement in 2012.
Before getting involved in the administrative side of high school athletics, Belinko coached football, wrestling, and lacrosse. Among his coaching experiences, Belinko was head wrestling coach at Johns Hopkins University, and football, wrestling and lacrosse coach at Overlea High School and Eastern Technical High School. He served as Overlea High School’s Athletic Director before moving into the school district’s central athletic office. He is a member of the Eastern Technical High School’s and Overlea High School’s Athletic Hall of Fame. Belinko is a graduate of the University of Baltimore, and he earned his master’s degree from Morgan State University. He taught NIAAA legal courses as an adjunct faculty member at McDaniel College, and he holds the designation as a “Certified Master Athletic Administrator
Since retiring to Delaware, Belinko has been an active member of the Delaware Association of Athletic Directors (DAAD). He is a member of the Delaware LTI teaching faculty for the NIAAA’s legal courses.
Belinko has been a member of the Millville Town Council for 5 years. he is currently serving as Mayor and President of Sussex County Association of Towns. He severs on the executive committee of the Delaware League of Local Governments. He holds certificates from the University of Delaware’s Institute for Public Administration in Delaware’s Planning Education Program and Academy for Excellence in Local Government Administration.
